Doesn't matter. The side is just one element of a good character and a good group of characters. The specifics of what side you're on is less important than a good story and well thought out characters.

come on Ankhanu, of course if your a good player it does not matter, I will give you that. I think everyone has a prefrence or more of a desire to play a certain group or type. I have only played 3 star wars characters, and I like to play certain types of characters, right now since I have not played Imperial then I can not make a vote on that, heck now that I think of it I have not played rebals either. Bottom line is everyone enjoys playing certain types of era or sides then others. If you did not want to vote then don't but there is no need to shoot down the poll is there?

I am stating for the record that I will note vote do to my inexperience with the diffrent sides.

I've played Rebel, Imperial and Freelance; I think one of my favorite characters was Imperial, though one of my favorite games was Freelance... and I haven't had a LOT of experience playing actual Rebel, usually rebel-aligned freelance, but I have a little. In the end, I haven't found that what side I'm on matters a whole lot.

I like to experiment with different character types; I do have a tendency towards a certain type, but I've given a fairly wide range a-go. It's the ability to experiment with personalities and goals that I find fun. What side the character is on is just an element in their personality/context.

Personally I don't think it really matters either. I played one character who joined a New Republic group during the Thrawn campaign, but under false pretenses; the GM had me 'join' the group, but actually be working for the Warlord the group was sworn to destroy. Of course later into the campaign, once my character found out the Warlord dealt in slaves, which my character abhors, he switched sides. But it was fun to start out as a double agent. It was also fun to roleplay the whole 'coming clean' part of it.
